Tasting Notes

Lonesome Rock is an exciting place for Chardonnay. Starting at 600+ feet and rising to 650 feet, 1.25-acre volcanic soil parcel is on a south-facing slope. At this elevation, in this soil, the Chardonnay is only capable of grand-cru Burgundy-type yields. Fewer than 200 cases per year will ever be produced.

Jackson Holstein of Granville Wines makes Lonesome Rock Chardonnay. Jackson grew up on a tractor in the Willamette valley and before starting his winery, while working with our vineyard management company became enamored with Lonesome Rock when he worked on planting the Chardonnay in 2015. "Grand Cru Burgundy-level yields." Three separate picks were done for the 2021 Chardonnay over 13 days. Each pick was fermented separately using different vessels including stainless steel barrel, Chassin, neutral French oak, and a new Meyrieux 500L puncheon.

The palate is full-bodied and rich with a honeyed texture and explosive with aromas of white peach and ripe pear while finishing with an electrically fresh backbone and a long, creamy finish.

Only 125 cases produced.
