Vine Growth and Canopy Management

With the arrival of summer, the vineyard transforms into a lush sea of green. Tender shoots that emerged in spring have now matured into leafy canopies that provide essential shade and protection for the developing grapes. Canopy management becomes a daily task. Shoots must be meticulously positioned and the leaves trimmed to ensure optimal sunlight exposure and airflow. This attention to detail is crucial as it influences the flavor development and health of the grapes throughout the season.

Flowering

Early summer marks a pivotal moment in the vineyard calendar: the flowering of the grapevines. Delicate clusters of tiny flowers emerge, signaling the potential for fruit to come. This ephemeral period is delicate, as weather conditions—particularly rain and wind—can significantly impact the pollination and subsequent grape set. Fruit Set and Green Berries

As the summer progresses, the tiny flowers on the grapevine transform into small, hard green berries. This stage, known as fruit set, is a critical juncture where the potential crop size is determined. Winemakers monitor sugar levels, acidity, and flavor profiles in the grapes, aiming to harvest at the peak of ripeness to capture the essence of the vineyard's terroir.
