Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from Every Block of Our High-Elevation Vineyard

The Estate brings together fruit from every Pinot Noir block at Lonesome Rock, capturing the range of clones, soils, elevations, and exposures across our hillside vineyard.

Clones 667, 777, Wadenswil, and PN50, planted in 2007 and 2015, come together in a wine that represents the vineyard as a whole.

Tasting Notes

The 2023 Estate Pinot Noir bridges the qualities of the 2021 and 2022 vintages, combining depth and structure with energy and freshness in a seamless, expressive wine. Aromas of black cherry, red plum, blood orange, and violets emerge alongside subtle root beer spice. The palate balances concentration and lift, with silky, powder-fine tannins woven into an open-knit, supple texture, making the wine approachable and harmonious from the outset.

Winemaking Notes

The fruit was harvested by hand across three picks between September 23 and October 7 into small picking bins to preserve whole berries. After hand-sorting and full destemming, the berries underwent a 4–5 day cold maceration, fermented with ambient yeast, and were hand-punched during fermentation.

The wine was transferred to French oak barrels, 20% new, and aged in our cold cellar for 11 months before a light filtration at bottling.

2023 Growing Season

The season began slowly, with cool spring temperatures followed by a warm, dry summer that accelerated development and kept yields low. Cooler conditions and rainfall arrived in September, slowing ripening and preserving freshness as the fruit approached harvest.

Pinot Noir was picked across three dates—September 23, October 4, and October 7—allowing us to harvest each block as it reached the balance we were looking for. The resulting wines combine ripe, expressive fruit with natural acidity, structure, and freshness.
